PHILADELPHIA--The Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) announced both the All-America and all-region teams, Friday. Juniors Emma Spiro and Ali DeLuca were named All-Americans while Courtney Lubbe and Becca Edwards were named to the All-Mid Atlantic region team.
A first-time All-American, Spiro was named to the first team after a breakout season that included a Tewaaraton Award nomination. She scored 32 goals, the second most on the team this season, and added three assists. She dominated the draw with 50 wins this season and was a major factor on the Quakers' nation-leading defense.
DeLuca earned her second consecutive second-team All-America honors. She led the team in goals and points. Her 40 goals was third most by a Quaker in a season and her 55 points tie for third all-time.
On the Mid Atlantic region team, junior Courtney Lubbe had 13 multi-point games and was the team's third leading scorer. Her 16 assists on the season ranked in the top 20 all-time at Penn.
Finally, senior Becca Edwards returned from last season's injury to be the Quakers' fourth leading scorer and became the Quakers' 16th 100-point scorer. She was named to the all-region second team.
The Quakers finished the 2009 season with a 15-3 record after an epic double-overtime loss to Northwestern in the NCAA semifinal.
