PHILADELPHIA - Senior co-captain Jess Knapp, who played most of the 2011-12 season on two torn knee ligaments, told her story to Comcast Sportsnet and several other local and national media outlets during the past few weeks.

Penn was off to the best 10-game start in program history (7-3) when Knapp tore her ACL and MCL against San Diego State on Dec. 30. The Carlstadt, N.J., native elected to play on the two torn ligements in her left knee instead of opting for career-ending knee surgery.

Penn lost six straight games before Knapp, who also missed her entire freshman season with a torn ACL in her right knee, returned to the court. With the captain in the lineup full-time, the Quakers were 13-9 this year and 0-6 without.

The Red and Blue (13-15, 6-8 Ivy) finished with its highest win total since the 2004-05 season. In addition to the best start in school history, the Quakers opened 5-0 at home for the first time in eight years and set a program record with seven wins before the month of January. Penn's seven non-conference wins are tied for fourth-most in school history. The Quakers also swept a road weekend for the first in five seasons and posted back-to-back 10 win seasons for the first time since 2003-04 and 2004-05.
