Ivy League Championships information

PHILADELPHIA - The Penn men's golf team got a glimpse of what to expect at this weekend's Ivy League Championships two weeks ago at the Princeton Invitational, as all eight Ivies were in the field.

Yale finished with the low score at that 54-hole event, but when the dust had settled just 16 strokes separated the Bulldogs from five of the other Ivy institutions. Penn head coach Scott Allen expects it to be just as close this weekend at Galloway (N.J.) National.

"I think six teams will get in their vans and head to Galloway this weekend thinking they can win it," he said.

The teams will begin teeing off at 8 a.m. on Friday, 11 a.m. on Saturday, and 8 a.m. on Sunday. Galloway National Golf Club is a Tom Fazio-designed course that plays at par 71 and is 7,111 yards from the tips.

Penn's lineup has been solid all spring with senior Scotty Williams, juniors P.J. Fielding and Colin St. Maxens, sophomore Max Marsico, and freshman Austin Powell. Marsico has two tournament titles, at George Washington and Navy, while Powell was individual medalist at Penn's Quaker Invitational earlier this month.

Williams, of course, won the Ivy League title two years ago and followed that up with a fourth-place finish last year. St. Maxens -- a former Ivy League Rookie of the Year -- and Fielding seem to be playing their best golf at the right time, and should also be in the mix to score for the Quakers all three days.

Yale is the defending team champion, while Dartmouth senior Peter Williamson will be gunning for his third individual title (he also won it in 2009 and 2011).
