PLOVDIV, Bulgaria - The United States pair of Kathryn Brown and Christine Cavallo gained second place in the pair at the recent Junior World Championships in rowing, the best finish in that boat class ever by the Americans. Their coach? New Penn assistant women's rowing coach Cass Cunningham.
"I am really happy for Cass and the entire squad for the US Junior team this summer," said Penn's head coach, Mike Lane. "They did an outstanding job at the World Championships, and Cass helped to lead the 2- to the best finish ever which is amazing! I am excited for her to bring that skill set here to University City as we prepare for the upcoming season which will start very soon!"
Cunningham was hired by Lane earlier this summer, but has taken a brief respite from her Penn responsibilities to complete her duties with the U.S. team at the Worlds. Overall, the Americans had an outstanding week in Plovdiv with four different junior women's boats earning silver medals.
