PHILADELPHIA -
The Penn women's cross country team acquitted itself quite nicely on Friday afternoon, facing Atlantic 10 favorite La Salle on the Valley Green Trail in Wissahickon Park. Though no official score was kept, the Quakers had eight of the first 11 across the finish line, led by senior co-captain Leslie Kovach with a time of 14:41 in the 4K race.

La Salle's Megan McGlinchey was Friday's winner, reaching the finish in 14:37 with Kovach hot on her heels. Penn followed up with the third and fourth place finishers as well, freshman Hannah Grossman (14:43) and junior Kersie Jhabvala (14:51) making a good early impression on head coach Steve Dolan.

After the Explorers claimed fifth and sixth place, Penn continued to roll with the next five to finish all wearing the Red and Blue. Senior Margaret Diacont and freshman Amy Darlington tied with an identical time of 15:00, followed by three more freshmen: Shannon McCarthy (15:03), Elyssa Gensib (15:04) and Nicole Ghazarian (15:07).

Other Penn runners on the afternoon were freshman Lauren Murphy (15:24), junior Chelsea Delaney (15:35), freshman Gabrielle Cuccia (16:04) and sophomore Pauline Dabrowski (16:44).

Penn will face a much more crowded field next Saturday when they travel to Van Cortlandt Park in New York City for the Iona Meet of Champions. Last year, the Red and Blue finished second out of 19 teams, losing out to the host Gaels by only two points.
