PHILADELPHIA - The University of Pennsylvania women's soccer team scored twice early and twice late, and the result was a 4-0 victory over NJIT Sunday at Rhodes Field.

Penn improved to 6-4-0 on the season, while NJIT fell to 2-8-3.

Penn needed just 3:19 to get on the board. A long throw-in from deep along the left sideline by Jazmyne Simmons bounced past several players to the front of the goal, where Kathryn Barth was able to get a foot on it as she turned and pushed a shot past goalkeeper Samantha Bersett's left side.

Less than 10 minutes later, the Quakers made it 2-0. Kerry Scalora took a ball from Erin Beck along the left wing and one-timed a long cross to the far post. Freshman Erin Mikolai was there waiting, and she headed the ball over Bersett's head under the bar.

Penn's third goal came with just over 13 minutes remaining in regulation. On a corner kick from the right side, Brianna Rano sent in a ball that was headed home from directly in front by Kaitlyn Moore. Just a few minutes after that, Mikolai completed the scoring when she finished a leave by Elissa Berdini from about 15 yards out.

Penn outshot NJIT, 22-6, as Sarah Banks went the distance in goal and was called upon for two routine saves.

Penn returns to action on Friday night, hosting Columbia at 7 p.m. in another Ivy League game. The Quakers are then at Saint Francis (Pa.) on Sunday.
