NCAA Men's Mid-Atlantic Regional Results (pdf)

State College, Pa. -
Running a 10k in competition for the first and only time this cross country season, the Penn men's team came in 10th on Friday afternoon at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional, hosted by Penn State.

Though Brendan Smith has become the usual suspect atop the Penn leaderboard, it was another freshman, Thomas Awad, who was the first Quaker finisher on Friday. His time of 31:19 put him just slightly above a five minute mile pace and secured 34th position overall. Among the freshmen in the race, Awad came in fourth. Senior Mike Kiley was next across for Penn. In his last go-round with the cross country squad, Kiley finished 54th overall with a time of 31:49. Two more freshmen followed behind as Brandon Clark (64th, 32:06) and Smith (66th, 32:07) put a cap on their excellent first fall seasons in the Red and Blue. Senior John Foye was the final Penn scorer, wrapping up the race in 71st, clocking in at 32:12.

Senior co-captains George Dickson and Kevin Foy also ran for Penn on Friday. Dickson logged a time of 32:27 while Foy crossed the line in 32:44.

By virtue of finishing in the top two spots, Georgetown and Villanova secured automatic bids to the NCAA Cross Country Championships in Louisville, Ky. on Nov. 19. Though Penn ends its fall season with this race, they did finish ahead of Big 5 rivals in La Salle and Temple, and moved up three spots in the overall team standings from 2011.

The indoor track and field season will get underway on Dec. 1 with the Lehigh Invitational.
