STILLWATER, Okla. - The Quakers took it to No. 3 Oklahoma State early in their season-opening dual, but strength in the upper weights propelled the Cowboys to a 35-10 win at Gallagher-Iba Arena.

The Red and Blue held a 10-4 lead after four matches, but the Cowboys rattled off six consecutive wins - all with bonus points - for the win.

No. 17 Mark Rappo started things off for the Red and Blue with a 9-2 win over Tyler Dorrell at 125 pounds. Rappo scored first in the middle of the opening period and led, 2-1, after the first frame. In the second period, Rappo opened up to the tune of six points. After escaping and adding a point via locked hands on Dorrell, Rappo connected on a takedown at 3:55 with two nearfall points for the big lead. Rappo had 3:27 of riding time, but a late escape for Dorrell negated the potential major decision.

After an 11-3 loss by Geoffrey Bostany to No. 10 Jon Morrison at 133 pounds, Penn answered with two wins to take its 10-4 lead. C.J. Cobb continued his hot start to the season with a major decision at 141 pounds over Julian Feikert, 10-2. Cobb had just one takedown in the first period, but rode out to build a big lead. The 2-0 lead held after a full period of riding for Cobb in the second period. The third stanza saw Cobb get to work, scoring three takedowns after an early escape. His 2:35 of riding time was enough to make a last-second takedown reach bonus points with the eight-point win.

The Cowboys were without top-ranked Jordan Oliver at 149, and Andrew Lenzi took advantage for Penn with a 10-5 win. Lenzi had all five takedowns in the match, scoring four of those on single-legs in the first period to build a commanding 8-3 lead after three minutes.

Momentum was halted for the Quakers at 157 pounds, with No. 10 Alex Dieringer pinning Mark Pinero at 0:49 to tie the team score at 10-10. Pinero, who normally competes at 157 pounds, was up a weight after an injury to starter Troy Hernandez and was tripped to a bad position, fought off the fall for 25 seconds, but was caught in the first period. That match started a stretch of six bouts where Oklahoma State used a decided edge in experience or national rank to score bonus points and pull away with the dual.

The Cowboys followed up with a 15-4 major decision by No. 3 Tyler Caldwell over freshman Casey Kent and a 21-6 technical fall by No. 1 Chris Perry over Ian Korb to build an 18-4 lead. Chris Chionuma added a technical fall at 184 over Canaan Bethea, 18-3, to give Oklahoma State a 23-10 lead with two bouts remaining.

With No. 9 Micah Burak out for Penn due to injury, backup 184-pounder Mike Steltenkamp wrestled in his first career dual for the Quakers, fighting off No. 8 Blake Rosholt through half the match before suffering a fall at 4:23 to ice the dual in favor of the Cowboys. At heavyweight, Oklahoma State scored its third fall of the night with a pin by No. 2 Alan Gelogaev at 5:18 against Kyle Cowan. Gelogaev had an 11-3 lead at the time of the fall via an 8-2 first-period edge off a four-point move.

The Quakers engage with annual rival Lehigh on Dec. 1 at 1 p.m. before making their home dual debut on Dec. 2 against Hofstra at 1 p.m.
