PHILADELPHIA - Adding to the Penn Sports Network experience this season, former Unviersity of Pennsylvania women's basketball standout, Jess Knapp, will be joining the broadcast team as the women's basketball analyst.
Knapp will join Penn women's basketball play-by-play announcer Dan Fritz, who is in his third season at the position. Knapp, is a three-year letterwinner and served as team captain in each of the last two seasons. Last year, she played the final 13 games of her career on two torn ligaments in her left knee. The Carlstadt, N.J., native missed just five games before returning to the floor. She started the final nine games for Penn and led the team in rebounding six times in that span. Her efforts earned her the 2011-12 Big 5 Sportsmanship Award.
Knapp also missed her entire
freshman year due to injury. Despite the injuries, she played more than
2,000 minutes in a Red and Blue uniform and started 71 games. Over her career, she
scored more than 500 points, grabbed more than 500 rebounds and dished more than 100 assists. She finished fourth all-time at Penn with 946career blocks. As a sophomore, she
led the team in rebounding and blocked shots - her 40 blocks that year
rank fifth in single-season school history. As a junior, she finished
fourth in the Ivy League in blocks and was second on the team in points,
rebounds, field goals and free throws. In her final year, Knapp was
limited by her injury, yet still rled the team in blocked shots, rebounding average, was second on the team in steals and third in scoring and assists.
In addition, Knapp earned 2011-12 Academic All-Ivy and Academic All-Big 5 accolades as a psychology major at Penn and graduated in 2012.
Knapp will be behind the microphone for the first time on Friday as the Quakers open their Big 5 slate against La Salle at The Palestra. Tip off is at 7 p.m.
