PHILADELPHIA - Two student-athletes who have battled back from early-season injuries to return to the lineup in fine form were honored by Penn's Sports Performance department with Student-Athlete of the Month distinction for March.
Micah Burak picked up Male Sports Performance Student-Athlete of the Month for March as voted on by the athletic trainers and strength & conditioning coaches after returning from an esrly-season injury to win his first career EIWA championship at 197 pounds on March 9. An NCAA All-American last season, Burak will compete in his fourth NCAA Championships later this month and has won 92 career matches, including a 16-2 record this season -- and a 13-3 mark since returning to the lineup with wins in 11 consecutive matches.
Dana Bonincontri missed two meets for gymnastics while rehabbing from injury, but returned in a dual meet against Ursinus to take second on bars and third on beam. Last weekend, she tied her career high on beam in a quad meet at Penn State with a score of 9.800. A two-time NCAA Regionals qualifier, Bonincontri is a four-time first-team All-ECAC gymnast who was ECAC Gynmast of the Year in 2011. She holds two school record, posting the high score in both vault (9.900) and the all-around (39.275). She has posted seven of the top-ten all-around performances in program history.
