NEW HAVEN, CONN. – The University of Pennsylvania men’s tennis team came up short on Sunday, wrapping up its road trip with a 7-0 loss to No. 54 Yale. Penn ends a stretch of five matches away from home with a record of 1-4.

The day started off with three competitive matches in doubles, but Yale was able to get the early jump on Penn. Austin Kaplan and Zach Katz lost at No.2 by a score of 8-5, and that was followed shortly after by an 8-6 loss for Nikola Kocovic and Mark Milbrandt at No. 1. Though Jeremy Court and Blaine Willenborg led in their match at No. 3, it was left unfinished as the teams went into singles with the point decided.

The Bulldogs ended the match in short order, with all six singles wins coming in straight sets. Of the six, Penn came closest to taking a set off Yale at Nos. 2 and 5. Kocovic lost a second-set tiebreaker to Marc Powers to fall 6-2, 7-6. In the No. 5 match, Katz nearly took a 1-0 lead over Jason Brown, but fell 7-6, 6-2.

Penn returns home this weekend and will be in search of its first Ivy League victory when the Quakers take on Dartmouth and Harvard from the Hamlin Tennis Center. Both matches will begin at 2 p.m.
