USRowing release about U-23 Trials

WEST WINDSOR, N.J. – Jenna Hebert, a rising sophomore at the University of Pennsylvania and member of the women’s rowing team, has qualified for the Under-23 World Championships as a member of the Vespers Boat Club lightweight quadruple sculls which won Wednesday morning at the U.S. Team Trials. The Trials were conducted Monday through Wednesday on Mercer Lake.

Hebert will move on with her boatmates to the World Championships, which will take place July 24-28 in Linz-Ottensheim, Austria. She is the first Penn rower to qualify for the Under-23 Worlds since twin sisters Rebecca Donald and Liz Donald went as the U.S. representative in the double sculls in 2010.

“I am extremely excited for Jenna,” said Penn’s head coach of women’s rowing, Mike Lane. “She is an amazing woman to work with -- she never complains, always works hard, and expects to be successful every time she sits in a boat or on the erg. It is that reason that she is now in the position she is in.

“Jenna’s success is not only great for her, but also the experience she will bring back to our program. Competing at the world championships is a big deal, and that experience will be a tremendous asset for Penn Rowing!”

Hebert rowed in Penn’s varsity 8 this past year, and earned first-team All-Region (Mid Atlantic) from the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) in May.
