PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania women’s soccer team scored twice in each half and defeated Fairleigh Dickinson, 4-0, Sunday afternoon at Rhodes Field.

Penn improved to 6-1-3 on the season, while FDU fell to 5-6-1 overall.

Penn outshot FDU 7-1 in the first half and had a 7-1 lead in corner kicks, and the offensive surge paid off. In the 26th minute, Kathryn Barth beat a defender on the left side of the box and sent a cross to the far post. Clara Midgley was running in and one-timed a blast that beat Sage DoVale to her left for the 1-0 lead.

Just before halftime, Brianna Rano sent a corner kick from the left side that Shannon Hennessy slid home at the near post to double Penn’s advantage.

Penn made it 3-0 early in the second half. Lindsey Sawczuk played a ball over the FDU defense that Megan York ran onto for a breakaway. DoVale had no chance as York put it past her right side.

The fourth goal came just after the hour mark. Midgley got the ball on the right side and played it in to the middle. Kerry Scalora made a dummy play at the near post to freeze the defense, and that allowed Elissa Berdini to hammer it home at the far post.

Penn is on the road next weekend, facing Columbia Saturday at 3:30 p.m. and Navy on Monday at 3 p.m.
