Princeton, N.J. and Terre Haute, Ind.  -- The University of Pennsylvania cross country teams concluded today’s races at the Princeton Invitational and the Pre-National Invitational. Fourteen runners competed in both the men's and women's races in the respective events.

Seven Quakers ran in the first event of the day – the Women’s 6K Championship Race – at the Princeton Invitational. Of the 25 teams, Penn placed 20th with an average time of 23:32. Coming in first for the Red and Blue with a time of 22:26 was senior captain Chelsea Delaney (29th). 77 places and 1:15 separated Delaney from the next Quaker to cross the finish line, freshman Madison Connelly (106th) -- with a time of 23:41. Close behind was the rest of the pack: sophomore Pauline Dabrowski (115th) at 23:41, freshman Jillian Kelly (121st) at 23:46, freshman Ella Wurth (125th) 23:51, sophomore Amy Darlington (127th) 23:57, and freshman Maya Desai (133rd) 24:18. A total of 206 women ran in the 6K.

After the women, 272 men prepared to run the 8K and Penn placed 15th out of the 30 teams with an average time of 25:16. Freshman Samuel Miner was 60th to cross the line and first for the Quakers at 25:03. Ten seconds later, freshman Chris Hatler (80th) crossed then freshman Lyle Wistar (92nd) 25:17, sophomore William Meadows (97th) 25:19, junior Victor Allen (103rd) 25:25, junior Kirk Webb (107th) 25:27, and Jack Huemmler (126th) 25:41.

The men that traveled to Terre Haute were also running an 8K at the same time. Penn ran with 51 other schools in the Men’s 8K Blue Race and placed 38, averaging 25:02.20. Out of the 359 runners, sophomore Thomas Awad ran 24:20.44, good for a 65th place finish and first for the Red and Blue. 107 runners passed until the next Quaker, freshman Brendan Shearn (172nd) 25:02.35. Rounding off the men showing for Penn was senior captain Conner Paez (204th) 25:12.59, freshman Nick Tuck (216th) 25:16.03, junior John Trueman (228th) 25:19.09, sophomore Clark Shurtleff (251st) 25:30.61, and senior captain Conor Nickel (285th) 25:47.22.

Closing the day’s races for the Quakers were the women competing at Pre-Nationals, who finished 46th in a field of 49 schools. Representing first for Penn and 147th out of 340 runners with a time of 21:47.44 in the Women’s 6K Blue Race was sophomore Elyssa Gensib. Next was freshman Cleo Whiting (159th) 21:50.22, freshman Madison Holleran (195th) 22.02.40, freshman Clarissa Whiting (227th) 22:13.21, freshman Ashley Montgomery (271st) 22:36.41, sophomore Gabriella Cuccia (287th) 22:47.25, and freshman Emily Quinn (302nd) 23.02.55. The young Quakers averaged a time of 22:05.94.

Penn will prepare for the Heptagonal Championships, which is next and will take place in two weeks at Princeton.
