Ivy League Release

PHILADELPHIA – The Ivy League has announced its weekly volleyball award winners, and University of Pennsylvania sophomore outside hitter Alexis Genske has been honored with her first co-Ivy League Player of the Week. She shares this week’s honor with Yale’s Mollie Rogers.

Genske produced a double-double this past weekend with 13 kills, 12 digs at Dartmouth and 20 kills, 12 digs at Harvard. Her 20 kills were a personal best in a match as well as the most by a Penn player in a match this season.

After dropping set one against the Big Green, Genske brought life to the Quakers with back-to-back kills in set two to push them ahead, 14-12. The Red and Blue would never trail again in the set. She also put down the winning kill in the third set and helped clinch the win with 3 kills, 1 BS, 1 BA in set four.

Down 2-1 against Harvard the next night, Genske helped Penn advance the match to a fifth set with 3 kills and 1 BS. It was a battle of kills between the Quakers and the Crimson in the fifth set, as the teams combined to produce 25 kills out of the 34 points scored. Genske contributed five of the Quakers’ 13 kills in the fifth-set victory.

With this past weekend’s road wins, Penn remains undefeated in the second half of Ivy play and will host Brown and Yale in its final matches of the season.
