PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania gymnastics team has announced its 2013-14 schedule. Penn will begin the year with the Philadelphia Jamboree, an exhibition with Temple, on Friday, Dec. 6. The Quakers will then open their regular season at the George Washington Invitational on Jan. 12.
“We have another exciting year ahead of us filled with opportunities,” said Head Coach John Ceralde. “This season, our team is talented but young. They have the ability to take on new challenges as we continue the program's tradition and success.”
Penn will travel to Providence, R.I. on Feb. 23 to compete in the Ivy Classic at Brown. Penn won the Ivy Classic in 2011 and 2012, and looks to improve upon its third-place finish from a year ago.
After winning back-to-back ECAC championships for the first time, the Quakers will set their sights on winning their third conference championship in a row on March 22 in Philadelphia at Temple.
Penn will travel four times this season, along with hosting four home meets this year inside the newly renovated Hutchinson Gymnasium. The Quakers will compete in the new John R. Rockwell Court inside Hutchinson, which also features the team’s new state-of-the-art training facility, the Nalitt Family Gymnastics Center.
After the George Washington meet, Penn welcomes Illinois State to Philadelphia on Jan. 18. The Quakers will then travel to New Haven, Conn. to take on Ivy opponent Yale, prior to traveling to city rival Temple on Feb. 1.
Penn will host a quad-meet on Feb. 8 where the Quakers will face SUNY Brockport, SUNY Cortland and Temple. Eight days later, on Feb. 16, the Red and Blue welcome West Chester and Rutgers to Philadelphia in a tri-meet.
The Quakers go on the road for the last time on March 1, traveling to Normal, Ill. to take on Illinois State once more. Southern Connecticut State will visit Penn on March 15, rounding out the regular season the weekend before the ECAC Championships.
