PHILADELPHIA – For the second year in a row, University of Pennsylvania senior Dani Shepherd was named Northeast All-Region Honorable Mention on Tuesday by the American Volleyball Coaches Association. The Los Angeles native is the third Quaker in program history to be recognized by the AVCA -- Megan Tryon earned Northeast All-Region Honorable Mention in 2009 & 2010 and Elisabeth Kwak-Hefferan was named Northeast All-Region in 2002 & 2003.
2013 AVCA Division I All-Region Teams
A two-time Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year, Shepherd earned first-team All-Ivy and is just the fourth Quaker to earn the honor three years in a row, first since Kwak-Hefferan (2001-03). Even though the libero missed seven matches due to injury, Shepherd led the Ivy League in digs per set (5.52) and finished the regular season 11th nationally at the Division I level.
Throughout her four years playing for the Red and Blue, Shepherd totaled 1,764 digs and ranks second all-time in Penn history behind her predecessor, Madison Wojciechowski.
This season, Shepherd led the team with 26 service aces and totaled 20 of more digs in 13 or her 18 matches.
