PHILADELPHIA -- It was sunshine and 80 degree water for the University of Pennsylvania swimming teams during spring training in Boca Raton, Fla. The teams missed the snowy storms and cold weather but will be travelling further North on Saturday for their Ivy tri-meet with Yale and Dartmouth in New Haven, Conn. The women are set to begin at 10 a.m. in Yale’s Kiphuth Pool, and the men are scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
Dartmouth was back in the pool competing this past Saturday, when the Big Green men and women teams placed first at the Tampa Relay Carnival hosted by the University of Tampa. The Big Green men won seven of ten events, while the women finished first in eight of the ten events.
Yale returned to competition this past Wednesday when the teams hosted fellow Ivy rival Cornell. The men and women Bulldogs both scored 181 points in their first Ivy wins of the season.
As for the Quakers, their last competition in the pool was at the beginning of December when the teams traveled to Gambier, Ohio to compete in the Total Performance Invitational. During the break, the Red and Blue held their annual spring training in Boca Raton, Fla. The team even received TV air time on News Channel 5 WPTV while training in the Sunshine State. Philadelphia and the rest of the North was hit hard by the winter storms, and Penn picked the right week to miss it.
With the sunshine and training behind them, the Quakers are looking to capture wins at Yale in hopes of starting the new year right.
