PHILADELPHIA – The freshman knew her game was important, but she did not know it was the deciding match. Anaka Alankamony won her fifth game, 11-8, to seal the match as the third-ranked University of Pennsylvania women’s squash team prevailed 5-4 over No. 5 Yale Saturday afternoon in Ringe Courts.

Alankamony’s win was one of three matches that the Quakers (7-2, 3-1 Ivy) were winners of by the score, 3-2. Senior co-captain Chloe Blacker also won in a fifth game, pushing her individual record to 6-0 on the season, along with Haidi Lala, in the third position on the ladder.

Freshman Michelle Wong won 3-1 on Saturday, and is 7-1 overall individually. While co-captain Courtney Jones matched Wong’s 7-1 record, winning 3-0 against the Bulldogs.

Yale (12-2, 2-1 Ivy) had come into the match with four consecutive wins, before falling short against the Quakers.

Penn’s victory came in front of a large crowd at Ringe Courts as the men’s and women’s squash programs were hosting a 125th Jubilee dinner and program after the match. The event was expected to bring together over 300 former men's and women's squash members, family and friends to celebrate the history and tradition of Penn squash.

The Red and Blue will have a quick turnaround, hosting No. 10 Brown tomorrow at 11 a.m. in Ringe Courts.
