PHILADELPHIA -- It was another tough loss for the University of Pennsylvania men's tennis team, which fell to Illinois State Sunday afternoon, 5-2, in the Levy Tennis Pavilion. The Quakers fought until the very end in their loss to the Red Birds and have now dropped to 1-5 on the season.

It came down to the final two matches and everyone in Levy made their way over to the other side of the pavilion to watch the showdown, as both of the matches went to three sets. Senior Zach Katz, playing in the No. 5 spot, was taking on Rolando Torellas while sophomore Zach Lessen was battling it out with Rodrigo Oliveira at the No. 6 slot. The tension was felt in the air as Lessen was down in the third set when Oliveira double faulted twice. However, Lessen was unable to capitalize on the opportunity and fell (3-6, 6-3, 6-3).

The Quakers began the match down a point, as Illinois State took the first point of the day with two out of the three doubles. Winning for the Red and Blue at the No. 2 spot was Katz and junior Jeremy Court defeated Jacob Wilson and Urh Krajnc, 8-6.

Court added another win under his belt in the singles, as he had evened the score with a quick defeat over Urh Krajnc (6-0, 6-0), in the No.4 spot. The Red Birds then pulled ahead with victories at the No. 1 and 3 spots.

The next match to finish was at the No. 2 slot, where sophomore Vim De Alwis defeated Jacob Wilson (6-4, 6-4). Once De Alwis had captured the win, everyone made the move to watch Katz and Lessen on the other side.

Penn will be back in action on March 9 when the Quakers host Temple in Levy at 9 a.m
