Women's Golf Takes Third at Yale

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The University of Pennsylvania women's golf team showed its potential this weekend at the Yale Fall Intercollegiate, with a lineup featuring four freshmen placing third out of 17 teams.

Of particuar note, Penn shot 293 in Saturday's second round, tying the program record for team score in a round. The only non-freshman in the lineup, junior Amanda Chin, carved up the course and tied for second overall while carding a 69 on Saturday. Marissa Kay had a 71 on Saturday, while Isabella Rahm and Franchesca de la Torre carded 74s on different days. Sophia Chen, meanwhile, went as low as 76 twice on the weekend.

Host Yale won the team title, carding 292-292-290--874 to defeat second-place Xavier by 19 strokes. Penn was third (304-293-302--899), followed by Seton Hall (903) and Boston University (907).

Chin finished the tournament at 75-69-74--218. Kay ended up tying for 16th in the field, shooting 79-71-76--226, while Rahm carded 74-77-78--229 and tied for 21st. Chen shot 76-76-80--232 and tied for 29th in the field, while de la Torre shot 80 and 84 before tying for low Penn honors on Sunday with her 74. She finished the tournament at 238, tying for 47th.

Yale's Elisabeth Bernabe won the individual title; she shot 69-72-73--214 to defeat Chin and teammate Seo Hee Moon by four strokes.

Penn returns to tournament action October 13-14 at the Harvard Invitational.
