PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The University of Pennsylvania women's soccer team got a goal from junior defender Haley Cooper, her first collegiate goal, and that was enough as the Quakers defeated Brown, 1-0, Saturday night at Stevenson Field.

With the win, Penn (11-1-4 overall) moved to 4-1-1 in Ivy League play and sole possession of second place. With one match left, however, the Ivy title is out of reach after Harvard defeated Dartmouth 2-1 earlier in the day to improve to an insurmountable 6-0-0 in conference. Brown started the night tied with Penn for second place, but fell to 3-2-1 in Ivy play and 8-6-1 overall.

So Penn will close out the regular season against Princeton next Friday night at 6 p.m. with no shot at the Ivy League title. However, the Quakers' at-large hopes for an NCAA Championship bid remain alive, especially with tonight's road win against a team that entered the week 71st in the Ratings Percentage Index.

Cooper's goal came in just the second minute of the match off a free kick. Brianna Rano sent the ball in, and Cooper headed it home at the far post.

Penn outshot Brown 15-7 on the night, and Kalijah Terilli made three saves to backstop the Quakers' 12th shutout this season.
