No. 68 Women's Tennis Defeats Drexel, 5-2

PHILADELPHIA - Making up an earlier postponed match against neighboring Drexel, No. 68 University of Pennsylvania defeated the Dragons, 5-2, Friday afternoon inside the Levy Tennis Pavilion.

Using a new look doubles lineup, shuffling the lineup due to players being injured and one returning from injury, Penn (4-3) was able to capture the point against the Dragons (5-2). Sol Eskenazi and Luba Vazhenina played together as the No. 1 pair and won 8-4, while the one pair that did not change, Stephanie Do and Alex Ion also captured their match, 8-5. Jaime Yapp-Shing and Kana Daniel played the third doubles match and did not finish.

In singles play Eskenazi cruised for a 6-1, 6-1 victory in the No. 1 position. Yapp-Shing playing in the second slot for the first time this year won in three sets 6-3, 0-6, 10-7, while Do clinched the victory in the No. 3 position winning 6-2, 6-2. Vazhenina played in her first singles match of the spring, falling in a tight three sets 5-7, 6-0, 12-10. Ion had little trouble with a 6-0, 6-3 decision, while Srindhi Raghavan fell in her first singles match of the season 7-6 (4), 6-1.

Penn will now head into a short rest before its spring break trip. Penn will visit California over the break beginning on March 10. The Red and Blue will face Fairleigh Dickinson, Gonzaga, Niagara and UC Irvine on their five-day trip.
