PHILADELPHIA - Five boats will be competing for the University of Pennsylvania men's heavyweight rowing team this week as the Quakers prepare for the IRA Regatta on the Cooper River in Camden, N.J. Racing begins on Thursday and runs through Saturday.

enter passcode 698020 (followed by the # key) at the prompt. Penn's first varsity is in Lane 6 of the second heat at 8:15 a.m. Thursday. Also in that heat is Syracuse, Harvard, Princeton, Columbia and Boston U. The second varsity races at 8:45 a.m., the freshman take the water at 9:30 a.m., the open fours are at 10:30 a.m., and the varsity fours race at 11:15 a.m.
In their last race, the Quakers
broke six minutes in the first varsity race, but were outdone by
Cornell in the final dual matchup of the season. The Big Red came across the finish line in 5:42.9. They
maintained an open water lead over the Penn boat, topping the Red and
Blue by 17 seconds. The Quakers crossed the finish line in 5:58.0, but
Cornell kept the Madeira Cup in Ithaca for the third straight year.
Penn had two boats in the IRA regatta last season as the Varsity 8 clocked a time of 6:22.91 in its heat. In the repechage, Penn had its best time of the weekend at 6:11.83. On Friday, Penn finished fourth in its semifinal with a time of 6:15.91 and then placed second in the fourth final with a time of 6:18.17 for a 20th-place overall finish. The second varsity finished 10th overall.
