PHILADELPHIA - The University of Pennsylvania women's soccer program has announced its 2010 schedule. The Quakers will play a 17-game slate that features 10 home matches and is highlighted by a trip to California.

"The schedule gives us a great start to our season, with all of our September opponents coming from strong conferences and having great seasons last year," said head coach Darren Ambrose, who enters his 11th season with the program in 2010. "We will be tested every weekend and have to be at our best coming out of preseason. Villanova is always a great rivalry, and I know they will prove to be a big early-season test, as is our matchup with Saint Joseph's. Dayton will pose a stiff test after a fantastic year in 2009.

"The schedule was put together to get us ready for Ivy play," he continued. "I think we have a good balance of games at home and on the road that will provide opportunities for strong competition and have us ready when Harvard comes to town as we kick off our quest to recapture the Ivy title."

Penn opens the 2010 campaign with four home matches, beginning Labor Day weekend when the Quakers host Towson (Friday, Sept. 3) and Villanova (Sunday, Sept. 5). The next weekend, the women host the Penn Invitational, playing Saint Joseph's on Friday at Dayton on Sunday. Lehigh will also be part of the tournament.

Penn's first road trip is just that -- a trip. The Quakers head to California for a long weekend and will face Cal State-Northridge and Loyola Marymount. This will mark Penn's second trip to the Golden State, as the Quakers were also out in the San Francisco area in 2004.

"I am excited for our trip out west to face LMU and Northridge," said Ambrose. "We had a great outing a few years ago vs. LMU at Princeton's tournament and expect the same kind of game this fall. We have many soccer alums in California, and it will be a nice trip home for several players on the roster."

The Quakers return home to open Ivy League play the next weekend, taking on defending champion Harvard at Rhodes Field on Friday, Sept. 24. Two days later, the Quakers host Navy.

Penn is in upstate New York the following weekend, taking on Ivy foe Cornell (Oct. 1) and Army (Oct. 3). The next Friday, the Quakers host Columbia at Rhodes Field. After a midweek contest with Wagner (Oct. 13), Penn plays Ivy games at Dartmouth (Oct. 16) and Yale (Oct. 23) on consecutive Saturdays. Another midweek game, this time against Lehigh (Oct. 27), briefly breaks up the Ivy schedule, before the Quakers close out the campaign with a home game against Brown (Oct. 30) and a road trip to Princeton (Nov. 6).

Penn went 10-4-2 overall last season, and tied for third in the Ivy League with a 4-3-0 mark. The Quakers return 15 letterwinners from that squad, including three who received All-Ivy recognition. Seniors Kaitlin Campbell, Kristin Kaiser and Marisa Schoen will be this year's captains.
