VERSUS/Ivy League Release
2011 Penn Football Schedule
Penn's National TV History
PHILADELPHIA - Without taking the field in 2011, the University of Pennsylvania football team has already tied a school record. For the second time in school history, Penn will have three nationally televised games. In a deal announced by VERSUS and the Ivy League on
Wednesday, the two-time defending Ivy League champions will be broadcast nationally on the VERSUS network at
Columbia (Oct. 15), vs. Yale (Oct. 22), and at Harvard (Nov. 12).
Penn and Yale each appear three times on
VERSUS this season, including a head-to-head meeting on Oct. 22. The
last time Penn had
three nationally-televised games was in 2008 when games were broadcasted
on
ESPNU, VERSUS, and the YES network. In the last four years, the
Quakers have had a combined nine nationally televised appearances.
VERSUS is the fastest growing sports cable
network in the country and is now in more than 75 million homes. The network
will broadcast five Ivy League games, beginning with Cornell visiting Yale on
Sept. 24. The Quakers travel to Columbia on Oct. 15 with kickoff set for 3:30 p.m. The
next week Penn will host Yale at Franklin Field with a noon start. Three weeks later, Penn's matchup with Harvard will be seen across the country with a noon start. A complete list of the Ivy League on VERSUS is below.
This will mark the fourth straight year in
which VERSUS has partnered with the Ivy League and the Quakers have been
selected as part of the national network's package each year. In that span, the Red
and Blue are 2-1 on the network.
In 2008, Penn's Homecoming game
at Franklin Field was showcased on VERSUS as the Quakers fell in the final
minutes, 34-27 to eventual Ivy League champion Brown. In 2009, the Red and
Blue were featured on the network in its Ivy League opener, a 30-24 win over
Dartmouth in Hanover, N.H. Last year, Penn routed rival Princeton
52-10. It was the most points Penn has ever scored against the Tigers and marked the largest margin of victory for the Quakers in the 102-game history between the
schools.
Penn will begin its 135th football season with practice
in late August. The 2011 team will open the season on Sept. 17 against
Lafayette at Franklin Field. The remainder of the television schedule and game times for the 2011 Penn football season will be released later this summer.
