Meet Results

EUGENE, Ore. - Freshman Maalik Reynolds of the University of Pennsyvania men's track and field team placed second in the high jump at the USA Junior Outdoor Championships this weekend and secured an invitation to represent Team USA at the Pan-American Games.

Reynolds was one of four Quakers to participate at the USA Junior Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore. Fellow rising freshman Karl Ingram, Gabrielle Piper and Conner Paez were also at the University of Oregon's historic Heyward Field.

Reynolds passed at the first two heights and missed just once over the next three heights. He was one of just three competitors to cleanly pass 2.17 meters (7 feet, 1 1/2 inches). Only one person surpassed the bar at 2.20 meters, and Reynolds claimed second-place by tie-breaker with fewer overall misses.

Piper competed at the same time as Reynolds and finished fourth in her heat of the 110-meter hurdles. Her time of 14.38 placed her 12th overall among the field of 20.

Ingram was the first of the Penn athletes to compete at the meet. He placed 10th in the javelin. He was ninth after the first round of throws with his toss of 56.97 meters. That stood as his best toss entering his final toss where he stood in 11th place. His throw of 58.75 meters (192-09 ft.) moved him into the top 10.

Paez was the last to compete for the Quakers. He was 17th overall in the 5,000 meters as he finished 14th in his heat with a time of 14:54.32.

The USA Junior Outdoor Championships served as the selection meet for the 2011 Pan-American Junior Athletics Championships, July 22-24, in Miramar, Fla. The top two finishers in each event in Eugene are invited to compete as members of Team USA.
