ITHACA, N.Y. - The Penn women's soccer team continued its unprecedented run of success in Ivy League play Friday night, defeating Cornell 2-1 at Berman Field.

With the win, the Quakers improved to 5-4-0 on the season, 2-0-0 in Ivy play. Over its last eight Ivy matches, Penn has gone 7-0-1 -- the best eight-game stretch of conference play in program history. In its last 18 Ivy League matches dating back to 2009, Penn is 13-2-3.

Both of Penn's goals came in the first 16 minutes of the second half, after a first half that saw the Quakers nearly get on the board thanks to Erin Mikolai (who rang a shot off the post).

The first goal came off a corner kick from the right side. Kerry Scalora whipped the ball to the far post, where junior Claire Walker was there to head it home for her second goal of the season. With the goal, she became the first Penn player to achieve multiple goals this season - previously, eight different players had scored the Quakers' eight goals.

Scalora notched her second of the season not long after that, just after the match passed the hour mark. Off another corner kick, Megan York toe-poked a ball out to the junior who put the shot inside the right post from about 15 yards out.

Cornell (0-10-0, 0-2-0) drew within one with just over 11 minutes left in regulation, as Maneesha Chitanvis took a ball from Morgan Zaidel in the midfield and beat Penn goalkeeper Sarah Banks.

That was all the Big Red could muster, however, as Banks was equal to the only shot on goal in the final minutes. She ended the game with six saves. At the other end, Tori Christ had seven saves for Cornell as Penn outshot the Big Red on the night, 18-16.

Penn is back in action on Sunday, hosting NJIT at Rhodes Field at 1 p.m.
