Men’s Tennis Holds Serve on Day One of Penn Invitational

PHILADELPHIA - Though the sky threatened at different points in the day, the rain mostly stayed away from Penn Park, allowing for a full day of action on Friday in the first-ever Penn Invitational. With 13 Quakers entered into different flights of the singles competition, the day had to be considered a rousing success as 10 of them were able to advance into Saturday morning's quarterfinals. Four of the seven flights will have two Penn players among the final eight when play resumes tomorrow.

On the doubles side, things didn't run quite as smoothly for the Red and Blue. All four teams entered into Flight A were eliminated on Friday in their opening matches. However, in Flight B, the teams of Lucas Andreika/Jason Magnes and Vim De Alwis/Ismael Lahlou each advanced into the quarterfinals. Wins from the two teams in tomorrow's quarterfinals would set up an all-Penn semifinal later in the day.
