Final Consolation Draw (pdf)

PHILADELPHIA - The Penn men's tennis team came up empty in two championship singles matches at the Penn Invitational on Sunday. After competing in back-to-back doubles matches, Vim De Alwis fell to Delaware's Adam Lawton, 7-5 and 6-1 in the Levy Flight final. In an earlier match, Sylvester Wee fought back from a set down but wasn't able to complete the turnaround, losing a three-set decision to Florian van Kann of Binghamton, 5-7, 6-1, 2-6.

In a quirk resulting from two Brown players advancing to meet in the finals of the Ben Franklin bracket, Blaine Willenborg's scheduled consolation final against Temple's Kristian Marquart in the Quaker Draw was nixed in favor of a meeting with one of those Brown opponents. There, he defeated Lucas Da Silveira in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4.

In doubles, De Alwis and Ismael Lahlou went 1-1 on Sunday. The duo defeated a team from Princeton in a tightly contested semifinal, 8-6, but fell to a pair of players from Minnesota, 9-8, in the Flight B championship match.
