Final Tribe Invitational Brackets (pdf)

Williamsburg, Va. -
The Penn women's tennis team sent a small congregation to William & Mary's Tribe Invitational this past weekend, coming away with a runner-up finish from Alex Ion in singles as well as third place showing from Stephanie Do and Jaime Yapp-Shing in doubles.

Of the five Quakers to make the trip, two - Do and Ion - won their opening quarterfinal matches on Friday morning. Do moved into the Megan Moulton-Levy semifinals with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Old Dominion's Diana Ivanova, while Ion outlasted Natalie Blosser of Harvard, 7-6(3) in the first set, before romping to a 6-0 victory in the second, advancing to the final four of the Cherie Dow flight.

Do would fall to Olga Terteac of VCU on Saturday afternoon to end her shot at the final, and would go on to finish fourth in the draw after falling on Sunday to Maria Belaya of William & Mary. Ion had much better luck against an opponent from the Tribe, moving easily past Anik Cepeda with a 6-2, 6-2 win that placed her in Sunday's final. There, her run would end with a 6-1, 6-0 loss to Hai-Li Kong of Harvard.

In doubles action, Do and Yapp-Shing had little trouble in the quarterfinals of the Karen Van Der Merwe draw, dispatching the Old Dominion pairing of Melissa Esnal Olguin and Ivana Vukovic, 8-4. But against William & Mary's Anik Cepeda and Leeza Nemchinov, the pair fell behind a break and couldn't make up the difference, losing in the semifinals by a count of 8-5. They closed out their run in the third place match, defeating Harvard's Amy He and Hannah Morrill, 8-2.

The Quakers jump back into their fall season from Oct. 19-23, competing in the ITA Northeast Regional at Army.
