Princeton Chase Results
PHILADELPHIA - Several top 10 finishes highlighted the last Fall weekend of competition for the University of Pennsylvania men's rowing team, including a ninth-place finish for the varsity at Sunday's Princeton Chase and a third-place showing in the freshman 8 race Saturday at the Head of the Schuylkill.
To start Sunday's Princeton Chase on Lake Carnegie, the Quakers finished ninth among the 27 boats in the Varsity 8 race. Penn posted its top-10 finish with a time of 13:08.675. The Quakers had two boats in the race, with the Red and Blue's second boat crossing the finish 13:33.720 to place 21st overall.
Later, in the Freshman 8 race which included heavyweights, the Quakers posted yet another top-10 finish. Of the 33 boats, Penn was eighth with a time of 13:22.430 - fourth-best among lightweight boats. A second lightweight boat finished 23rd with a time of 14:35.391.
The Quakers had three boats competing in the fours. The first of which crossed the finish in 14th place as they stopped the clock at 14:53.642. Penn's 'A' boat was just off that pace with a time of 14:56.010, which placed them 16th among the 30 boats. Penn's final group of oarsmen finished in 25th at 15:38.989.
Saturday on the Schuylkill River, the lightweights had an impressive third-place finish among 29 boats Freshman 8 race. The Quakers had two boats competing in one of the day's opening events. The top boat crossed the finish in 12:55.50 as one of just three boats to break 13 minutes in the event. That was just off the pace set by Princeton's top two boats. The Red and Blue's second boat was timed at 15:25.81. A short while later, in the open lightweight 8 race, the Quakers faced off against Rochester and Duke. Penn placed second with a time of 14:16.67. That was well ahead of the time posted by the Blue Devils, but about a minute off the pace set by Rochester.
The Quakers concluded their 2012 Fall schedule with these two regattas and will now prepare for the Spring season to begin in March.
