Novice Heavyweights Claim Second at Belly of the Schuylkill

PHILADELPHIA - The Penn heavyweight rowing team wrapped up its fall racing with the innaugural Belly of the Schuylkill on Sunday, a race featuring only novice crews from five programs. The race was in place of the Rutgers Freshman Invitational which was cancelled due to issues stemming from Hurricane Irene.

The Quakers ranked second overall among the five crews, its top two boats pickingup finishes of third and fourth out of 14 boats entered. Navy had the top two finishers, claiming the overall win.

Penn's A boat was third in 12:28.7, finishing 8.5 seconds behind first-place Navy B. Penn's B crew was fourth, crossing the line in 12:37.2, outdistancing fifth-place Delaware by 8.3 seconds.
