Meet Results

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. – The Penn gymnastics team finished in third at its quad-meet in New Brunswick, N.J. on Saturday. The Quakers overall score (190.525) was an improvement from last week’s fourth place finish (189.575) and they are on their way up in 2013. In addition, Dana Bonincontri continued her hot start – she was named ECAC Gymnast of the Week after her performance at GW on Jan. 13. The senior made a strong push to win the award for a second consecutive week, as she finished first in the all-around with an outstanding 39.125.

Bonincontri finished third on vault (9.850), second on bars (9.775), third on beam (9.775), and fifth on floor (9.725), with each score just decimals away from her personal best, including her all-around performance.

Kirsten Strausbaugh finished third in the all-around (38.525), as her best performance of the day came during her floor routine where she finished second with a 9.800, which is just .075 off her personal best, as well as a new season-high.

A few freshmen contributed, as they did last weekend, in Elyse Shenberger and Carissa Lim. Additionally, Emily Paterson (vault) and Amber Hu (bars) made their Penn debuts, contributing to the team score as specialists.

Makeda Constable, Megan Milavec, Amanda Schlaefer, and Kaitlyn Reszkowski also competed for the Quakers. Constable notched respectable scores on bars and beam, and Milavec posted quality scores on vault, bars, beam, and floor, resulting in a sixth place finish in the all-around. Schlaefer and Reszkowski each contributed as specialists on beam and floor, respectively.

The Red and Blue will be back in action on Jan. 27 against their first Ivy competitor of the year when they travel to New Haven, Conn. to face Yale for a 1 p.m. meet.
