PRINCETON, N.J. – The No. 4 Penn women’s squash team (7-2, 1-2 Ivy) saw its bid for a top-two spot in the CSA rankings taken away by the hands of top-ranked Princeton (6-0, 3-0) on Wednesday night at the Jadwin Squash Courts. The Quakers fell behind early, and were never able to come back, losing to the Tigers, 9-0. Penn played a total of four five-game matches and three four-game matches, dictating that the final result did not accurately display the effort. In the first rotation of matches, Chloe Blacker (7-1, 2-1) lost her first decision since the middle of last season, 3-1, at the ninth position. At No. 6, Yarden Odinak (3-3, 1-2) looked to even the match at one when she took a 2-0 lead in the early going. Unfortunately Princeton’s Lexi Saunders took over the rest of the match with her stamina, winning the final three games and taking the match, 3-2. Rachael Goh (4-3, 1-2) came in at No. 3, but after taking an early 1-0 lead, fell to Princeton’s Nicole Bunyan, 3-1. The Red and Blue entered into the second rotation of matches trailing 3-0, and matters did not get any better. Steady freshman Yan Xin (5-2, 1-2) stepped in at the second position, but fell quickly for her second loss of the season, this one in straight games to Libby Eyre, 3-0. Camille Lanier (7-1, 2-1), the hero of Penn’s 6-3 upset over Trinity, took her place at No. 8. The rookie fell behind 2-1 after three games, but forced a fifth. She took the final game all the way to then end, but ultimately dropped the match, 3-2. Pia Trikha (4-1, 1-1) was at the fifth position, and was able to take the first game but dropped the last three, and the match, 3-1. Trailing 6-0, Penn was looking for some redemption in the final rotation. Nabilla Ariffin (3-3, 0-2) fell in straight sets first at No. 1. Haidi Lala (6-1, 2-1) played at the fourth position, displaying her skill by taking every other game and forcing a fifth. The freshman was unable to close the final game though, falling 3-2. The last match to finish on the night was at No. 7 between Courtney Jones (4-2, 1-2) and Alex Sawin. Jones won the first game, 14-12, and the fourth game, 11-9, to force a fifth, but was unable to finish and lost, 3-2. The Quakers will be back in action on Feb. 2 for a doubleheader against Brown and Stanford in Providence, R.I. They will face the Bears at 11 a.m. and the Cardinal at 3 p.m. Full Results No. 1: Julie Cerullo (Pr) def. Nabilla Ariffin (Pe) 3-0, (11-8, 11-4, 11-5)
