PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania women’s tennis team (9-5, 1-2 Ivy) gave No. 41 Yale (13-2, 2-0) all it could handle on Saturday afternoon, but ultimately fell 5-2 for its second Ivy League loss of the season. The Quakers dropped the doubles point, winning one of three matches, and then came away with one victory out of the five completed singles matches.

Doubles

Penn fell behind early as the second doubles pair of Katherine Jania and Jaime Yapp-Shing (0-3, 0-3) fell, 8-2. The Quakers came back in the next match to finish, evening it up at one apiece with another victory at first doubles from Sol Eskenazi and Sonya Latycheva (12-1, 3-0), 8-5. Unfortunately, Stephanie Do and Alex Ion (5-3, 1-2) fell in a tight won at third doubles, 8-6.

Singles

Fourth and sixth singles were the first to finish, as Yapp-Shing (5-3, 1-1) and Srinidhi Raghavan (0-3, 0-2) both fell in straight sets, respectively. Do (8-6, 0-3) would be the next to finish, dropping her match at second singles in straight sets as well. Eskenazi (10-3, 2-1) got Penn back into the win column in the next match to be completed with a straight-set triumph at first singles. The last match to finish on the day was at third singles where Latycheva (9-4, 1-2) dropped a heartbreaker in three sets, losing the final set in a 10-8 battle.

The Red and Blue will be back in action next weekend when they travel north for an Ivy road weekend. They will visit Dartmouth on Saturday for a noon match and then will be at Harvard on Sunday at the same time as well.
