USRowing Collegiate Poll
PHILADELPHIA – After taking second in the Adams Cup and bypassing No. 9 Navy in the process, Penn’s heavyweight crew had its efforts rewarded with a ranking of No. 12 this week in the USRowing Collegiate Poll – the highest regular-season ranking for the program since 2004.
The Quakers were ranked No. 15 before last week’s competition, and tied for the largest jump in spots this week with its three-place improvement. Harvard, the team Penn was second to last weekend in the Adams Cup remains in the No. 2 spot where it was on Saturday.
"Like every team at this level, we've been working very hard - this year and over the past four as well," Nicholas B. Paumgarten Head Coach of Heavyweight Rowing Greg Myhr said. "We hit on a combination that seemed to click this past weekend at the Adams Cup and our men performed very well to finish in front of Navy - something we haven't done for a number of years. We have our work cut out for us to keep moving forward and to continue to represent Penn well at the Eastern Sprints in two weeks."
That work resumes on the waters of the Schuylkill River the next two weeks leading up to EARC Sprints in Worcester on May 19. Last year, the Red and Blue placed 11th at Sprints and replicated that finish at IRAs to earn a final 2012 ranking of No. 11.
