PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania’s men’s tennis team is set to host its 2nd annual Penn Invitational this weekend. 15 total schools will partake in the tournament and in addition to all 20 courts being utilized at the Hamlin Tennis Center and Levy Tennis Pavilion, matches will also be played at courts on Temple’s campus across town. Action will get underway on Friday morning starting at 9 a.m. at both locations and will continue through Sunday.
Unlike last year’s inaugural invitational, the format this year will feature various dual matches between participating schools rather than the traditional individual tournament during the fall. Each dual match will consist of eight flights of singles and four flights of doubles.
The Quakers will have representation on three separate teams competing in the tournament. Penn’s main team of eight players will face off against Duquesne at noon on Friday. Also taking the court at noon will be a mixed team of Penn and Monmouth players joining forces versus Binghamton. Lastly, an All Star team roster consisting of players from Penn, Lehigh, Niagara, and Stonybrook will kick things off at 9 a.m. against Delaware.
Other schools participating this year are Brown, Buffalo, Norfolk State, St. John’s, St. Joseph’s, St. Peter’s, and Temple.
Results will be posted on PennAthletics.com after each day of play is completed.
