PHILADELPHIA – It is one of the biggest events on the schedule for the University of Pennsylvania swimming and diving program: the Total Performance Invitational. Hosted by Kenyon College, this is the only meet of the year where each athlete has the opportunity to swim an unlimited number of events. Swimming will start on Thursday in the James A. Steen Aquatic Center at 5:30 p.m. and continue through Saturday evening.

A live video feed for the weekend’s events can be found by clicking here.

The Total Performance Invitational has been good to the Quakers over the past few seasons. Last year, the men won their third consecutive title while the women took home their fourth. Penn looks to continue the streaks and end 2013 on a high note, with the men split at 2-2 overall while the women are 1-3 after opening the season with a win against UConn.

As the meet draws near, the athletes prepare to compete in a format they will encounter at the Ivy League Championships; however, the preparation and approach for the event is different for the two Penn squads.  Hard workouts followed by days of rest will result in some of the fastest times for the men this season, as the trip to Ohio will also play a factor into determining who will compete in the Ivy League Championship. As for the women, they will continue their normal routines – a combination of work and rest.

With the swimmers able to experience races they don’t usually get to swim, head coach Mike Schnur is looking forward to the meet and the speed his swimmers will bring.

“The Total Performance Invite at Kenyon is a meet designed to allow the athletes to go fast,” said Schnur. “It is great fun for them to be able to experiment. It also offers distance swimmers a chance to swim their best event on the first day of the meet, instead of the last.”

Full results and recaps from each night of competition will be made available on PennAthletics.com.
