PHILADELPHIA - The final preseason women's lacrosse poll has been released, and Penn has been voted preseason No. 15 by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) to start 2014.
The Red and Blue received 102 overall votes, and came in as the top-ranked Ivy League program among the 20 schools inside the preseason Top-20. Ancient Eight rival Princeton is the only other Ivy club to crack the Top-20, sliding just behind Penn in 16th place with 95 votes.
Defending national champion North Carolina earned the top spot with 398 total votes and 360 first place selections. The Quakers will head to Chapel Hill on March 2. That game is one of five contests against preseason Top-20 programs for the Quakers who will also take on No. 2 Maryland, No. 4 Northwestern, No. 10 Georgetown and the 16th-ranked Tigers.
Up first for Penn will be a game with Delaware at Franklin Field on Feb. 22 at 1 p.m.
