Men's Tennis Falls to No. 43 Penn State, 5-2

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – The University of Pennsylvania men's tennis team was hoping to end No. 43 Penn State’s perfect record but fell short in a 5-2 loss to the Nittany Lions Saturday afternoon at the Indoor Tennis Center. The Quakers now stand with a 1-4 spring record.

PSU won the doubles points, after sweeping the three matches with 8-6 victories.

The Nittany Lions then went on the win three singles matches at the No. 1, 2, and 3 spots, claiming the W early. Even though the match was already determined, the No. 4, 5 and 6 spots continued play.

Freshman Matt Nardella, competing in the No. 4 slot, put up the first point for the Red and Blue after defeating Penn State’s Roman Trkulja (7-6, 5-7, 6-3).

Senior Zach Katz added an additional point for Penn with a win at the No. 6 spot over PSU’s Marc Collado Castells (4-6, 6-2, 10-6).

The Quakers will be back in action tomorrow when they take on Illinois State in Levy Pavilion at 10 a.m.
