PHILADELPHIA – Almost a week after returning from the spring break trip to California, the University of Pennsylvania men’s tennis team will make the trip down to Washington DC to take on Georgetown on Saturday at noon. If weather permits, the Quakers will take on the Hoyas outside at the McDonough Outdoor Tennis Complex; if not, the two teams will play inside the Yates Field House. Even though Georgetown goes into Saturday’s contest with a better record this season (5-7), the Red and Blue (3-8) hold the overall series record at 29-1 and will look to extend it to 30 wins.

Last year when these two teams faced each other in the Levy Tennis Pavilion, Penn took the win in a comeback fashion, 4-3, after being down 3-1. The Quakers had dropped the doubles point but tied the score with a win at the No. 2 spot, only to see it slip away with the Hoyas responding with wins in the No. 3 and 6 spots. Resilience and determination led to the Red and Blue to fight their way back and capture the win.

Out in California this season, both squads had some difficulties, as Georgetown played against three teams while Penn saw four. Both teams first faced UCSB on their West Coast stint.  The Quakers came out with a 4-3 win over the Gauchos – which was their sole win on the trip -- while the Hoyas couldn’t claim any points against the Gauchos and fell, 0-7. Both Penn and Georgetown also took on UC Irvine, falling by identical scores of 2-5. In addition, the Red and Blue dropped matches to SDSU (2-5) and Cal Poly (1-4), while the Hoyas lost 3-4 to UC Riverside.
