PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania men’s golf team plays one final tournament in its run-up to the Ivy League Championships next weekend. That tune-up takes place this Friday and Saturday at the Navy Invitational, a 36-hole event that will be played on the par-71 Naval Academy Golf Club.
The field includes 18 teams from 16 schools (Navy will field three teams). Besides Penn, only Cornell will play from the Ivy League. The other schools include Bucknell, Colgate, Drexel, Delaware, Emory, Lafayette, Lehigh, LIU, Rhode Island, Saint Francis, Saint Joseph’s, Siena, and Towson. They will tee off both days at 8:30 a.m. and play 18 holes.
“We are excited to head south to Annapolis to defend our title at the Navy Invitational,” said head coach Bob Heintz. “Just as important is the opportunity to get two more rounds of competitive golf under our belts in preparation for a strong finish at the Ivy Championship the following week at Baltusrol Golf Club. We did not keep pace with the outstanding scoring of some of our Ivy League foes last week at Princeton, so we are looking for a better finish this week to build confidence and momentum.”
“Ben was our low scorer at Princeton, so he will take over the No. 1 spot this week,” said Heintz. “The goal is to eliminate last week’s mental errors and contend for an individual win.”
