ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The University of Pennsylvania men's golf team is tied for eighth out of 18 teams after one day at the Navy Invitational. The Quakers shot 21-over-par 305 in Friday's first round, leaving them tied with Siena. Saint Francis (Pa.) and Towson are tied at the top of the leaderboard after shooting 296 on Friday, while host Navy is third at 301. The other Ivy League team in the field, Cornell, shot 303 and is fifth.
Dane Walton, who missed the Princeton Invitational last weekend, was Penn's low scorer on Friday. He shot a 2-over-par 73 which left him tied for ninth in the field of 90 golfers. Junior Ben Cooley carded a first-round 75 and is tied for 17th overall, while classmate Tomas Agrest had a 76 and is tied for 29th. Junior Austin Powell and sophomore P.J. Collier both carded 81 on Friday and are tied for 67th.
T.J. McNulty (Saint Joseph's) is atop the leaderboard; he carded a 4-under-par 67 on Friday and is three shots ahead.
Teams will play one final round on Saturday morning, teeing off at 8:30 a.m.
