WASHINGTON, D.C. - Rising senior Meg Markham is in the nation's captiol this weekend, competing for a spot on Team USA at the tryout camp for the U.S. Women's National Team. The camp is being held at Georgetown University, the home school of head coach Ricky Fried.
Markham, a first-team All-American and the Ivy League's Defender of the Year, is one of 23 defenders in camp, looking to earn a spot on the 2014-15 National Team which will begin preparations for the 2017 FIL World Cup in Surrey, England.
All players in camp were invited to tryout by the coaching staff and represent the best talent the nation has to offer. Only four defenders from the 2013 World Cup championship team return to camp this year.
Markham is the second Quaker in recent years to compete in the National Team tryout camp. In 2012, goalkeeper Emily Leitner was one of four goalkeepers to reach the final stage of tryouts for the eventual champions. Katie Mazer '09 competed at the World Cup for Israel.
