John Christmas
Position: Assistant Coach
Experience: 1st Year

John Christmas was hired by Mike Murphy to be a volunteer assistant with the Penn men's lacrosse program, and joins assistant coaches Chris Wojcik and Brian Dougherty on the Quakers' staff for the 2010 season.

"We are very excited to have John Christmas join our staff," said Murphy. "He brings a vast knowledge of the game and an excellent ability to teach. He is terrific at developing offensive skills and will be a tremendous resource for our players. Additionally, John is one of the best players to come out of the Philadelphia area and a great ambassador for our program here in the Philadelphia lacrosse community. He is also a leader in bringing lacrosse to the inner-city kids of Philadelphia and will help our players give back to the sport and the local community. I could not be happier with the staff that we have assembled here at Penn."

"I'm thrilled to be at a university like Penn," said Christmas. "The history and energy on campus is exciting, and it's also great to be able to help coach a top-notch university in my hometown. The support for the lacrosse team and staff is first-rate, and I look forward to giving the players 100 percent."

Christmas has enjoyed a standout playing career both at the professional and collegiate level. At the University of Virginia, he was a two-time All-ACC selection and earned All-America honors twice. He was an NCAA all-tournament selection in 2002 when Virginia made the NCAA semifinal round, then was the leading goalscorer for UVA's 2003 national championship squad. In 2005, Christmas earned the team's Most Valuable Offensive Player honor as the Cavaliers advanced to the NCAA semifinal round.

Following that, Christmas moved on to Major League Lacrosse where he has played for the Boston Cannons. He was a 2006 MLL All-Star selection and earned the league's Most Improved Player award that season. Christmas also plays professionally indoors as a member of the National Lacrosse League's Philadelphia Wings.

As a coach, Christmas has been involved with the Dukes Lacrosse Club in Springfield, Pa., since June 2005 as a select-team coach. He also coached the varsity and JV teams at Lower Merion High School from 2006-09, leading the team to its best season in program history in 2008.

Hailing from the Philadelphia area, Christmas played his high school lacrosse at Lower Merion where he became the state's all-time leading scorer and was the only player in Pennsylvania state history to earn All-America honors three times.

Christmas is also well known for his many ventures within the sport of lacrosse. He founded 141 Lacrosse Training Company LLC in July 2005 and continues to function as its CEO; 141 Lacrosse provides individual and small group training as well as setting up camps, clinics and tournaments nationwide. In November 2008 he co-founded LEAPS, whose mission is to "enrich the lives of youth through lacrosse and education, as well as instill the importance of a healthy and active lifestyle - all of which will, in turn, help them develop a positive worldview." He continues to serve as director of programs for LEAPS. Christmas has also served as a sales representative for Maverik Lacrosse Equipment since January 2006.
