Lindy's FCS Preseason Top 25 and All-America Teams

PHILADELPHIA – Junior defensive lineman Brandon Copeland, a first-team All-Ivy selection last season for the University of Pennsylvania football team, was named to Lindy’s All-American second team on May 31. He was one of only two Ivy League players selected for that honor. The Quakers also received some team recognition as they were ranked preseason No. 20 by Lindy’s.

Last season, Copeland started all 10 games for the Quakers, recording 45 tackles and three sacks on his way to the first-team All-Ivy selection. He also led the team and finished fifth in the Ivy League with 10 tackles for loss. He had at least one tackle in every game, including a season-best nine in the overtime win over Dartmouth on Oct. 2. He also had eight tackles in the Ivy title-clinching win over Harvard on Nov. 13.

The Quakers (9-1, 7-0 Ivy) won their second straight Ivy League title with an unbeaten record last season and finished ranked No. 18 in the media poll and No. 16 in the FCS Coaches Poll. That marked the highest final rankings for Penn since the program finished the 2003 campaign at No. 12 in both polls. The Quakers were the only Ivy League team to be ranked in either poll at any time during 2010 and have been in the rankings for eight straight weeks - the longest stretch since an 18-week streak between 2002-03.

Penn will begin its 135th football season with practice in late August. The 2011 team will open the season on Sept. 17 against Lafayette at Franklin Field.
