PHILADELPHIA - With eleven days since their last match, the men's tennis team came in rested and ready on Wednesday afternoon and handled the visiting Georgetown Hoyas by a score of 6-1 at the Levy Tennis Pavilion.

Head Coach David Geatz tried out some new pairings in doubles, with Ivan Turudic and Nikola Kocovic winning, 8-5, in the duo's first time together. When Phil Law and Rob Wong closed out the match at No. 3 doubles, also 8-5, Penn took a 1-0 lead with the doubles point. Playing at No. 2 doubles, Zach Katz and Jeremy Court also were together on a first-time basis, rallying from a 0-3 hole to tie things up at 6-6, before being broken and losing 8-6.

Seeing his first singles action of the spring season, Katz made quick work of John Brosens in No. 5 singles, 6-3 and 6-2, to put the Quakers up 2-0. Next in line to finish was Kocovic who himself had little trouble against Shane Korber, putting the Red and Blue on the cusp of victory with a 6-2, 6-4 win. The winning point went to Jason Magnes at No. 6, who made it three straight-set wins in a row with his 6-2, 6-4 defeat of Brian Ward.

Although the match had been decided, things moved forward in the three remaining singles matches. At No. 1, Turudic had a set in hand over Andrew Bruhn but trailed 2-5 in the second before a furious rally. Forcing the set into a tiebreak, Turudic was able to claim a 6-4, 7-6(4) win. The final Quaker point went to Law at No. 3. The senior served for the match at 5-4 in the second set, but was broken. After quickly breaking back against the Hoyas' Charlie Caris, Law was able to hold, giving Penn a 6-0 lead with his 6-4, 7-5 decision.

Georgetown was able to get on the board in the last undecided match as Court battled but fell short against Andrew Dottino, 6-7(5), 6-7(9).

Penn continues its home stand this weekend, going up against the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights at Levy Tennis Pavilion on Saturday at 1 p.m.
