CHERRY HILL, N.J. - The Penn women's rowing team completed its 2011-12 season on Sunday at the inaugural Ivy League Championships. The championships were conducted in conjunction with the EAWRC Sprints on the Cooper River.
In the morning heats, the varsity 4A was the only boat that advanced to the afternoon's grand final. The Quakers were third in their heat, clocking 7:32.686 which was nearly five seconds ahead of Dartmouth. The varsity eight (6:31.501) and the second varsity eight (6:47.801) were fourth in their heat and assigned to the petite final against Columbia.
In the afternoon, Penn finished fifth in the varsity 4 B championship race, clocking 7:54.483 over the 2,000-meter course. The Quakers finished well ahead of sixth-place Dartmouth (8:14.232). In the third varsity 8 championship race, Penn was sixth out of seven boats in 6:57.577.
In the varsity 4 A grand final, Penn ended up in sixth place in 7:50.690. In both the second varsity 8 and the varsity 8 petite finals, the Quakers finished second to Columbia. In the second varsity 8, the Lions clocked 6:51.994 while the Quakers were timed in 7:03.530; in the varsity 8 race, Columbia's 6:31.535 was ahead of Penn's 6:34.860.
