IWLCA Release

PHILADELPHIA -
Maddie Poplawski was dominant in the midfield for Penn this season, leading the Ivy League in draw controls as the Quakwrs won a sixth consecutive Ivy League championship. After earning unanimous first-team All-Ivy honors at the end of the regular season and being named first-team All-Region early last week, Poplawski added another honor to her season with her first career All-American selection.

Poplawski was one of 48 Division I women's lacrosse players named All-American by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (ILWCA) as part of national championship weekend, earning third-team All-American honors.

Poplawksi had a career year for the Quakers, exploding during her junior campaign for 29 goals and 31 points. Among all Ivy League players, Poplawski led the pack with 14 free position goals. A consummate midfielder, Poplawski led the Quakers with 61 draw controls (second in the Ivy League) and was second with 27 ground balls. A unanimous first-team All-Ivy selection, Poplawski opened the season with her best day as a collegian with four goals and nine draw controls at Drexel. She had four goals and an assist during the Ivy League Tournament to earn All-Tournament honors.

The IWLCA will honor the National All-Americans at the IWLCA All-American banquet on June 16, 2012 at the Radisson Hotel Valley Forge in King Prussia, Pa.
